Surreal Expressionism
Gallery 1 txt
The works of art in gallery 1 were conceived in 2019 to 2020.
This series is called “Untitled Drawings at the Crack of Dawn.” They were executed on acrylic markers on paper. In them I portray my ongoing battle with mental illness. There is a tension between moments of lucidity juxtaposed by moments of mental illness. My struggle with mental illness is represented by the tension between “The Crack of Dawn” sky and “Smoking Fish.” “The Crack of Dawn” sky symbolizes freedom of mental illness whereas the “Smoking Fish” pollutes the mind with mental illness.
Gallery 2 txt
The works of art in gallery 2 were conceived in 2015 to 2018.
This series is called “Smoking Figures with Landing Gear.” They were executed on acrylic on canvas. Like “Gallery 1”, I portray my ongoing battle with mental illness. There is a tension between moments of lucidity juxtaposed by moments of mental illness. My struggle with mental illness is represented by “The Smoking Figures with Landing Gear.” Both elements represent pollution of the mind. They both give me claustrophobia.
Gallery 3 txt
The works of art in gallery 3 were conceive in 1994 to 2007.
This gallery doesn’t have titles. I started painting in 1994 so I didn’t have a signature style back then. The only common denominator between the three galleries is the that they all have an element of surrealism. During this period, I starting experimenting with “The Crack of Dawn” sky. I liked it so much that I still use it on my latest works of art. Something I continue to use to this day is my evolution of my stick figures.
